Don’t Wake Me Up — I’m Living in God’s Dream

By Karl “DJ K.P.” Pearce

This morning, I prayed to God that I didn’t wake up—

not because I wanted to die,

but because I didn’t want my life to just be a dream.

That’s when it hit me: I’ve got joy.

Not the kind that comes from what’s in the bank or who’s calling my phone.

This joy isn’t rooted in circumstance—it’s anchored in Christ.

It’s the peace of knowing that even when I can’t see the whole plan,

God’s hand is still steering the wheel.

The Driveway Revelation

This prayer didn’t happen in struggle.

It happened while I was pulling out of the driveway of my family’s dream home.

The same home my wife and I once prayed for.

The same car I once only dreamed of test-driving is now parked outside.

My wife is smiling. My kids are safe. My heart is calm.

And in that moment, I felt something deeper than pride — I felt reverence.

Because I remembered the days when we didn’t even know where we’d sleep next.

The days when we shared one car that coughed and wheezed down the road.

The days when every dollar had a destiny before we earned it.

And now, sitting in what many would call “success,”

I realized: it was never about the stuff.

It was always about the journey.

The Secret of Joy

When I finally started doing the work of the Kingdom—

not chasing blessings, but chasing obedience—

everything started falling in line.

The scripture says:

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness;

and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

The “things” weren’t cars or houses.

They were peace, clarity, joy in the middle of storms.

See, joy isn’t the trophy at the end of the race—it’s the fuel that keeps you running.

It’s what happens when your grind turns into gratitude.

When your movement starts to mirror His mission.

When the Dream Feels Like a Nightmare

But I also know this:

while I’m praying not to wake up,

someone else is praying that they do.

There’s a brother or sister out there right now

who feels trapped in a nightmare — financially, emotionally, spiritually.

And to you, I just want to say: my prayer is with you.

I don’t take this peace for granted.

I thank God daily that my dream is not a nightmare.

But I also believe that the same God who lifted me up

can and will lift you too.

If you’re in that dark space, I’m not telling you to fake joy.

I’m telling you to seek God in it.

Ask Him what He’s trying to show you.

Because He’s not a God of lack, despair, or confusion—

He’s a God of transformation.

Sometimes you’ve got to shed some things to see Him clearly:

old habits, bad attitudes, bitterness, or even people and places.

Every time you let go of what doesn’t serve Him,

you get closer to the One who does.

From Survival to Surrender

I’ve lived both sides of the story—

the prayers whispered in the struggle

and the praise shouted in the blessing.

And if there’s one truth I’ve learned, it’s this:

God doesn’t bless who you pretend to be.

He blesses who you’re becoming.

He waits until your heart can handle the harvest.

Because if He gives it too soon,

you might worship the gift instead of the Giver.

So He stretches you through struggle.

He refines you through resistance.

He matures you through moments of “not yet.”

And then—one day—you realize what He’s been doing all along:

turning your pain into peace and your waiting into wisdom.

How to Move in Contentment

1. Reflect Daily

Look back with gratitude, not guilt. Your history is your testimony.

2. Seek God First

Don’t let prayer be your last resort. Make it your first response.

When you chase purpose, provision chases you.

3. Detach from Results

Fall in love with the work, not the outcome.

The process is where the power is.

4. Shed Distractions

You can’t hold on to resentment and receive renewal at the same time.

5. Celebrate the Present

Joy isn’t waiting on a raise, a call, or a vacation.

It’s here—right now—in the breath you just took.

The Dream That Doesn’t End

So now when I say, “Lord, don’t wake me up,”

I’m not talking about sleep.

I’m talking about the peace of knowing

that the life I’m living is one only God could have written.

Because when you realize you’re walking in the dream

He dreamed for you from the start—

you don’t ever want to wake up.

You just want to keep building, keep believing,

and keep living in God’s dream.
